Religions are Meant to be Dangerous, But …….

While I argued to the contrary previously, here’s another piece of the puzzle. The question should not be whether religions are dangerous or not, but rather at whom is the danger directed at? The beliefs of the Judeo-Christian religions (Judaism and Christianity) are actually more dangerous to its followers than to those outside. The teachings of Jesus for example are primarily about denying oneself, forgiveness, loving those who harm us and even actively praying for them (yikes!). This is a dangerous lifestyle, but only for those who choose to follow it, those at the receiving end actually enjoy its fruits without having to adhere to the belief system.

But the moment a religion (or any belief system) advocates or justifies violence against any group outside then it has violated a fundamental value. Now it is a danger to those who have/want nothing to do with that system. This is evil and that is where the danger lies!
