Nice observation that identity changes with context and that it becomes an issue only when threatened.

I believe a sense of identity is good (whether family, city, language, religion, etc). Becomes an issue when we think its superior to another’s identity or it is sacred and cannot be debated / flaws pointed out.

Also agree that there are always people willing to use “identity politics” for their own ulterior motives. It would be great if we hold people we identify with to the highest standards rather than blame / villanize another group.
