A Hamster On The Wheel

A friend told me about how they take care of their pet hamster, how it spends its time everyday running around a small box. I felt sad for the hamster. But why? The hamster wasn’t complaining, it wasn’t mistreated, it was well fed and had its own space. Yet, I had this vague idea that the hamster was missing out on something bigger. The hamster himself might feel that he’s leading a busy life, running about in his little cardboard cage everyday, eating his daily meal and living a secure life. But that just makes it sadder still.

There are days when I wonder if I am the hamster.
